Louis Blaise Inturrisi, Travel and Food Writer, 54

Louis Blaise Inturrisi, a Rome-based travel and food writer who also taught writing, was found dead in his apartment in the city's Monteverdi section last week, the police said. He was 54.

The authorities said they consider Mr. Inturrisi's death a homicide and are still investigating. He was thought to have died on Aug. 3 or 4.

Mr. Inturrisi wrote for more than a decade about travel in Europe and Italian cooking for The New York Times. He contributed articles to a several other publications, including Architectural Digest and Gourmet Magazine.

A native of Waterbury, Conn., he held a bachelor's degree in English from Duquesne University and a master's from New York University.

He taught in Japan and Italy before settling in Rome in the 1980's. In Rome, he taught at John Cabot University, a private institution, and at Libera Universita Internazionale degli Studi Sociali, a business school.

He is survived by a sister, Maribeth Inturrisi of Marin County, Calif., and a brother, Dr. Charles Inturrisi of Manhattan.
